Objectives:

• Use cases settings in relation with content providers.
• Identification of a list of killer applications in different sectors (not only large public).

• Better coordination of research efforts among projects and national initiatives by:
• Working towards a common goal
• Avoiding duplicate work
• Focusing on areas of expertise
• Providing “bench marking” standards, thereby allowing comparison, concertation and exchange of solutions
• Effectively addressing relevant multimedia information access problems
• Identification of technological gaps that could prohibit the successful completion of project goals
• Market needs prospecting to identify emerging new services and trends in multimedia retrieval

This will allow new inititatives and projects to work towards a common goal; provide "bench marking" standards, thereby allowing comparison, concertation and exchange of solutions; and to effectively address relevant multimedia information access problems.

Activities

• Development of a set of tools for conducting a gap analysis in the research sector of multimedia retrieval:
• Use Case Survey - for categorizing project and national initiatives, determining technical gaps in the market based on current and historical survey data, and assessing the feasibility of proposed new projects given their technical requirements
• Use Case Reporting Package - for reporting the gap analysis of the multimedia retrieval research field
• Contribution to the deliverable 2.2 “Second Report that integrates the identification of multi-technological key issues to address and practical roadmaps for EU vision”.
• Production of a white paper “Towards a Use Case Ontology for Multimedia Information Retrieval”.
