    THINK TANK

This work package (WP3) will gather in a so-called "Think-Tank" the main Stakeholders and experts in the domain of audio-visual search. CHORUS will recruit participation to the Think-Tank from outside the consortium, whilst involving Stakeholders representing all domain interests, so that highly relevant input and a well-balanced vision document can be realised.

The goal of the CHORUS vision document is to describe the state of audio-visual search we wish to reach in the future in order to give guidance to future R&D work in this area (in line with the mandate of CHORUS as a Coordination Action).

Relevant Stakeholders represent market and industrial interest, for example:
    • Main industrials (manufacturers and content producers).
    • Operators and service providers.
    • CHORUS will also include non-European Stakeholders and address, to the extent possible, user groups representing the general public.

The Think-Tank has advisory duties and provides guidance to the project directions, roadmap and priorities. Periodically Think-Tank sessions will be setup assembling the main actors around a subset of multi-technological issues. For each session relevant topics will be identified, in close cooperation with WP2. The Think-Tank sessions allow to focus the WP2 tasks on the industrial issues and to point out eventual gaps between the technological views of the EU projects in the Strategic Objective and the results expected by all Stakeholders of the audio-visual market. Besides the technological developments of the projects, their standardisation activities will be analysed. Based on a common vision, the Think-Tank will identify gaps in the standardisation currently being carried out in the field, so that further standardisation actions can be coordinated by CHORUS, being it as an action for a single project, or as a cooperative action of multiple projects simultaneously.

The Think-Tank meetings are the main source of roadmaps and technical gaps furnished to WP2. At the same time intermediate results of WP2 will be fed into the Think-Tank sessions to feed further discussion and to foster the incremental creation of a more detailed vision by the Think-Tank participants. The feedback obtained at these occasions will be a major means for the CHORUS consortium to assess the work already done, to refine and enrich the goals in place, and to calculate the progress made towards the realisation of the CHORUS objectives. Specifically, the Think-Tank visions will be incrementally included in the roadmap developed in WP2.

    Expected results:
    • Periodic Think-Tank (TT) sessions with specific agenda, at least three per year.
    • Periodic reports for guidance towards the WP2 activities, regarding gaps identified in technological developments and standardisation activities in the field.
    • Production of a coordinated vision document between main Stakeholders: industry, research, content providers, end users, in cooperation with WP2.
